Hey all,
So it’s been a full year of running a publishing business and trying our hardest to regularly update you all with what we’re doing via this newsletter.
We aren’t into New Year’s resolutions, but this year we will give you better and more insights into how we commission titles, layout books and work through our processes.
In 2023 we published 13 titles which you can see at Soi Books. We learned a lot from those releases - not just the design and laying out process, but the operations, the logistics, and much more.
We published a variety of titles. Some were for the wider global market, some for a more local market, and some were limited editions. We did this to test the market, improve our internal process, and not shoot ourselves in the foot overprinting and spending time and money placing titles in certain markets that won’t fit.
This year is more of the same and then some.
We’re continuing our mission of building a solid urban art, design, and photography backlist and, importantly, we’ll be doing much more collaborative work with other publishers. This will help us to further learn the wider business, get ourselves into a better position in terms of building our brand and selling our books, and keep our cash flow in the black.
So expect more art and design titles from us. We’re tweaking our ‘Hello My Name Is’, format from A6 to A5, mainly because we found people nicked our books. We’ve got some heavier-duty books penciled in, for 2025 and 2026, mainly around music and we have our first sports release, which is already available as a pre-order on Amazon.

QUESTIONS
Inspired by other Substack newsletters, in particular, Wesley Verhoeve’s Process, we’re opening ourselves up to questions and dialogue with our community.
If you’d like to know how we curate artists for our Bloc series or if aspiring publishers want to make a book or zine and need to understand more about printing processes, drop us a message in the comments or give us an email, we’re more than happy to hear your thoughts and ideas.
That’s it for now!
Have a great January everyone.
